Pearl

Pearl

Let me find You in this trace of simpleness.

Not in the familiar folds of Your being,

The way I come to You,

Knowing places,

Ways,
My mind devising plot and strength and feeling,
No,
It is something I must learn.

Your heart.
Your meaning.
Why You love me,
Why
In Spirit
There is no agenda,
No written set of orders
I must obey.
Like a breath of silk
Settling by my side,
I listen,
Searching for You.

Explore this,
The beat that drives communion in the night,
The gentle nudge that pushes self away
And stations You above my needs,
My wants.
Is that it?
Or is there something further still
Unannounced,
Washing over me,
Soaring down my throat
Like a bird in flight,
Looking for its oasis?

What is simple?
When you fill me with the essence of your journey,
When my task is to ask for nothing
But to remain by Your side?

Then You show me the pearls.
Take me down to the depths,
Create in me a secret place
Where memory shows me in Your goodness
How I danced when I was bound.
How my brokenness met kindness
Like a welcome friend.
How closeness sat with me,
I sensed its warmth,
It drew me in with thankfulness
And lessened the blows that life had thrown at me
Thus far.

I collected all You gave me,
A smile,
A look,
A simple touch,
The seventieth hug.

Take me down.
Watch me as I sit with You,
Hunched over,
Threading,
Knowing,
Stringing pearls.

Shall I wear You?
Shall I be like a diamond in the dark?
It’s in the simple measure
Of all You gave to me
That I find you,
And my agenda falls apart.
